Alabama Crime Victims Win Again in the Appellate Courts!

Every day, I go to work for the people of Alabama and fight for justice in the appellate courts. Once again, I'm proud to say that we've won a victory for the people of Alabama. On Friday, the Alabama Supreme Court denied the certiorari petition of Willie Earl Scott, a case in which I'm lead counsel. Mr. Scott defiled and murdered a ten-year-old girl. In the appellate process, I was honored to stand up for her in Jefferson County Circuit Court against a team of lawyers from Sidley Austin, an international law firm. My team and I won there, and I won again in the Court of Criminal Appeals. Now, the Alabama Supreme Court has rejected the last-ditch attempt to undo Mr. Scott's conviction. I'm proud of the part I've played in moving this case towards final justice, and I hope to put the experience I've earned winning cases in the appellate courts to work for the people of Alabama as a judge on the Court of Criminal Appeals.

Another Victory for Alabama

Rich Anderson is proud to anounce that today brings another victory for justice in Alabama. Officer Keith Houts was a family man and a dedicated Montgomery police officer. He was cruelly slain in the line of duty by Mario Woodward who was convicted and sentenced to death for his crime. Rich Anderson previously won victories for Alabama in the Court of Criminal Appeals and the United States Supreme Court during the direct appeal of this case. Then Rich Anderson won again for Alabama in the Circuit Court of Montgomery County during Rule 32 proceedings. Today delievered another victory when our Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed the denial of Woodward's Rule 32 petition. Rich Anderson has been lead counsel for Alabama at every step of the appeals in this important case and he's proud to have played his part in seeing that justice will be done.

Another Victory for Alabama

I'm proud of my day to day work fighting to get final justice for Alabama crime victims in the appellate courts. On Friday March 9, I won another important victory in the case of David Phillip Wilson v. The State of Alabama. Mr. Wilson brutally murdered our fellow Alabamian, Dewey Walker, in 2004. After he was convicted and sentenced to death by a Houston County Jury, I successfully represented the State in Mr. Wilson's direct appeal in the Court of Criminal Appeals, making sure that his conviction and death sentence were affirmed.

Later, Mr. Wilson raised another appeal in Houston County Circuit Court, this time challenging the effectiveness of his trial counsel and other issues. After successfully moving to dismiss those claims, I returned to the Court of Criminal Appeals in November and filed the State's brief showing why Wilson's claims were properly dismissed. In less than four months (a very short time for an appellate decision) the Court agreed with me, affirming the dismissal. That's an important victory for justice in Alabama, and moves us one step closer to getting final justice for the murder of Dewey Walker.
